Brochure Design

Many small business owners these days have tight budgets for advertising and promotion of their business. Some owners may feel that they can't even afford good quality, basic marketing materials such as brochures or a working website. However, a professional brochure and website should not be considered an option for a small business owner, but a requirement, a simple cost of doing business.

One of the biggest obstacles to putting together a brochure to promote a business is some business owners are just not aware as to how to get it done or who to contact to get it done for them.

There are a couple of ways for small businesses to get a brochure put together. You can contact a local advertising agency or design firm and they can get it done for you, but they will be rather expensive. For a lot of small businesses, however, hiring a professional design or ad agency is beyond their budget.

Another option to try is locating a freelance graphic designer to work on your project. You can look for freelance workers in your town at various online sites such as Craig's List or in local newspapers.

Hiring a freelance designer means you need to check out their past work and carefully consider their experience and past work. Artists will have samples of brochure design that they did for previous clients or examples of designs that they will use as a sort of template for your project.

A freelance designer may come up with a few different designs for you to choose from. Once you decide upon the project, your freelancer will take the project all the way through the actual printing process as well. A written contract with the designer isn't necessary, but you can fill one out if you like.

A third good option is to find a graphic design student to create the work for you. Talented design students will often take on your project for just a little bit of money, because they need the experience and to put completed projects into their portfolio of work to show potential employers one day. You can find willing students through a local school or college.

Lastly, you can also make the brochure yourself, but because most business owners don't have the required skill sets to accomplish this, I recommend you concentrate on doing what you do well and growing your own business, and leave the design to someone more experienced. Having a poorly designed brochure may have a negative affect on how potential customers view your business.
