Clemson University is a public, coeducational, land-grant and sea-grant research university located in Clemson, South Carolina.
It was founded in 1889.

The four schools that made up Clemson are Agriculture, Arts & Sciences, Textiles and Engineering, in 1955, transformed into nine colleges.
College of Arts and Sciences - In 1969, the College of Arts and Sciences was separated into The College of Liberal Arts and the College of Sciences.
College of Architecture - The School of Architecture was established on July 1, 1958. Within the college of Agriculture there is the department of Building Science and Management, Planning and Fine Arts.
College of Liberal Arts - The Liberal Arts program was growing rapidly from 1950- 1969 in terms of population as well as quality. Liberal arts became a separate college in 1969.
College of Commerce and Industry - The College of Commerce and Industry was created in 1962 and is one of the largest colleges existing at Clemson. Many years before Clemson was founded, textiles were the major industry in South Carolina. This College includes two schools and four departments.
College of Sciences - In 1971, the University's mission was to transfer departments from the College of Agriculture to the College of Sciences. The departments were Botany, Biochemistry, Microbiology, and Zoology. Another major organizational change was in 1978 when Computer Science was established as a separate department.
College of Education - Clemson University's College of Education is also one of the largest. The School of Education was established in 1965.
College of Forestry and Recreation Resources - The College of Forestry and Recreation Resources was formed in 1970. It included two departments -- Forestry and Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management.
College of Engineering - The college of Engineering was first developed in 1862. The different departments of the College of Engineering are: Material Science and Engineering, Bio-systems Engineering, Chemical and Bio-molecular Engineering, Bioengineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Engineering.
College of Nursing - The College of Nursing was designated as a college in 1972. A very serious health problem was going on in South Carolina In the early 1960s, which included shortage of nurses and lack of proper nurse training.
Clemson encourages its students to find opportunities to meet and interact with each other. Research suggests that involved students perform better academically, are more satisfied with their college experience and they are also more likely to graduate. Student organizations provide a way for students to become more active, serve the community and build lasting friendships.
There are more than 400 student organizations at Clemson which represent a variety of academic and other areas.
The university's fraternities and sororities system is somewhat different from other large universities in the southern U.S. There are no Greek houses on campus. There are residence halls designated for fraternities and sororities. But there are a few fraternity houses off campus near the college.
